Report No: GT/WT-160923-0312411107

Location: Washington D.C.

Agents:

  • Drummond
  • McCarter
  • Parker
  • Booth
  • Cortez (DECEASED)
  • Monroe (DECEASED)

Summary:

Following the fatal mission in the Florida Everglades resulting in the deaths of Agents Cortez and Monroe, Agents Drummond and McCarter returned to Washington D.C. They provided a debrief to their handler, Antonia Pizzarelli, and resumed their civilian lives. Both agents exhibited signs of psychological strain. New agents, Cole Parker and Franklin Booth, have been assigned to Working Group Masticate to monitor Drummond and McCarter for any abnormal behavior or influences.

Operation Report:

  • Escape from the Everglades: Agents Drummond and McCarter survived an encounter with unnatural entities in the Florida Everglades. Agents Cortez and Monroe were killed by creatures described as amalgamations of human and alligator flesh.

  • Retrieval of Personal Belongings: The surviving agents retrieved personal items from their vehicle, including sensitive materials belonging to Agent Cortez. They broke into the vehicle as the keys were lost with Agent Monroe’s death.

  • Undisclosed Materials: Among the items retrieved were a “Hello Kitty” folder and notes belonging to Agent Cortez. Agents Drummond and McCarter chose not to disclose all recovered materials to their handler.

  • Conversation En Route to D.C.: During the return journey, Agent Drummond attempted to covertly record a conversation with Agent McCarter. Upon being discovered, Agent Drummond confessed to establishing a “dead man’s switch” to release information should anything happen to him. Agent McCarter expressed distrust but ultimately shared detailed information about his experiences, including communications with an unknown entity and references to “Shub-Niggurath.”

  • Debrief with Handler: Upon arrival in Washington D.C., the agents met with Antonia Pizzarelli at a rented office space. They provided a debrief of the Everglades operation but withheld certain details and materials. Agent Drummond provided a flash drive containing Nika’s thesis but made an unauthorized copy for himself beforehand.

  • Expressions of Concern: Both agents expressed concerns about the ongoing threat and the potential for other affected individuals connected to the Cornucopia House case. They questioned the motives of their handler and the safety of continuing operations.

  • Return to Civilian Life: After the debrief, the agents resumed their civilian lives. Agent Drummond met with his FBI contact, Roman Butler, at a Waffle House. The meeting was strained due to previous requests that had caused professional issues for Butler, indicating a deterioration in their relationship.

  • Agent McCarter’s Mental State: Agent McCarter attended church with his wife Dasha and daughter Cecilia. During the service, he experienced a psychological breakdown, disrupting the communion ritual and causing a scene. He later sought therapy, where he disclosed details of his experiences. The therapy session was not effective, and Agent McCarter continued to exhibit signs of paranoia and obsessive-compulsive behavior.

  • Agent Drummond’s Unusual Gift: Agent Drummond received a silver snuff box from his wife Ellie, purchased from an antique shop. The box featured interlaced serpents forming a Möbius strip design. Upon opening it, Agent Drummond smelled an odor associated with previous unnatural encounters. He discreetly removed the box from his home, showing concern over its origin.

  • Meetings with Handler: Assistant U.S. Attorney Pizzarelli met separately with Agents Drummond and McCarter. She commended their effectiveness but informed them they would remain active agents due to their unique insights. Pizzarelli displayed subtle concern regarding their mental well-being.

  • Assignment of New Agents: Agent Cole Parker, a U.S. Marshal with Delta Green experience, was briefed by Pizzarelli and assigned to Working Group Masticate. He was instructed to monitor Agents Drummond and McCarter for signs of instability without revealing this directive. Similarly, Agent Franklin Booth, a seasoned CIA operative, was assigned to the group with the task of observing and assessing the agents’ behaviors in both professional and personal settings.

Analysis and Recommendations:

  • Psychological Evaluation Needed: Agents Drummond and McCarter are exhibiting signs of significant psychological distress likely stemming from exposure to unnatural phenomena. Mandatory comprehensive psychological evaluations are recommended to assess their fitness for continued field operations.

  • Risk of Information Leakage: Agent Drummond’s admission of a “dead man’s switch” poses a substantial risk of unauthorized disclosure of classified information. Immediate measures should be taken to identify and neutralize any such contingencies. Increased monitoring of Agent Drummond’s activities is advised.

  • Agent McCarter’s Instability: Agent McCarter’s public outburst indicates a loss of control that could compromise operational security. His failure to benefit from therapy suggests traditional methods may be inadequate. Specialized intervention may be necessary.

  • Unnatural Artifact Acquisition: The snuff box received by Agent Drummond may be a vector for unnatural influence. Given its sudden appearance and the associated olfactory hallucinations, retrieval and analysis of the artifact are imperative. Investigation into the antique shop’s provenance and potential connections to other unnatural events is recommended.

  • Operational Security Concerns: The agents’ mistrust of their handler and the program could affect mission integrity. Reinforcing operational protocols and considering a restructuring of the team’s command hierarchy may mitigate potential issues.

  • Integration of New Agents: The addition of Agents Parker and Booth is a strategic move to monitor and stabilize Working Group Masticate. Care must be taken to ensure that their surveillance activities remain covert to prevent further erosion of trust within the team.

  • Potential Ongoing Threat: The agents’ experiences suggest possible continued influence by entities associated with the Cornucopia House case. Vigilant monitoring of individuals connected to the original operation is necessary. Patterns of coincidences and reported phenomena warrant deeper analysis to understand the scope of the threat.

  • Secure All Sensitive Materials: Immediate action should be taken to recover all copies of Nika’s thesis and any other sensitive documents retained by Agents Drummond and McCarter. Failure to secure these materials could result in exposure of classified operations.

  • Prepare for Containment Measures: Contingency plans should be developed for potential containment or neutralization of Agents Drummond and McCarter if they become untenable risks to the program.

  • Further Investigation Advised: The recurring themes and symbols, such as references to “Shub-Niggurath” and the Möbius strip design, may have broader implications. Cross-reference with other operations to identify possible connections or patterns.

Session Notes
  • The session begins with the Handler (Luke) recapping the previous events: Agents of Working Group Masticate followed the trail left by Tommy Perez into the Everglades.
  • They found Tommy Perez, the last of Kerry Houghton’s killers. Perez gave Drummond a cryptic message addressed to him.
  • Perez violently lashed out at his own hands. Agent Cortez, believing Perez was about to attack, shot him with a shotgun, killing him instantly.
  • The other five people present sacrificed themselves to the alligators in the swamp. Perez’s body was also pulled into the water.
  • Strange forces stirred in the swamp, and creatures emerged—amalgamations of alligators and humans.
  • The creatures attacked the agents. Agent Monroe was killed almost immediately, seized and crushed by one of the creatures.
  • Drummond fled, with McCarter following after witnessing Monroe’s death and seeing Cortez surrounded.
  • Cortez fought bravely, killing one creature and nearly escaping, but was ultimately overwhelmed and killed by the remaining creatures.
  • Drummond and McCarter escaped, reaching I-75 where they had left their vehicle, only to realize the keys were at the bottom of the swamp.
  • They decided to break into the vehicle to retrieve their belongings and made their way to the closest gas station.
  • At a diner (Waffle House), Drummond and McCarter went through Cortez’s personal belongings retrieved from the vehicle.
  • Drummond found Kalamatiano’s notes among Cortez’s items. They also discussed Nika’s thesis and other documents.
  • Drummond attempted to secretly record a conversation with McCarter, but McCarter noticed and insisted he stop.
  • Drummond revealed he had set up a “dead man’s switch” to release information if anything happened to him.
  • McCarter was skeptical but agreed not to report this to Pizzarelli. Drummond urged McCarter to share everything he knew.
  • McCarter, after some hesitation, shared all his knowledge with Drummond, including his research into the occult, the entity Shub-Niggurath, and strange events they had experienced.
  • They discussed how events seemed manipulated, leading them to certain places and actions, suggesting they were being guided by some force.
  • The agents drove back to Washington, D.C., and met with Assistant U.S. Attorney Antonia Pizzarelli for a debrief.
  • Drummond and McCarter were cautious, on high alert for any threats during the meeting.
  • During the debrief, they recounted the events but withheld certain personal experiences and concerns.
  • They discussed the strange coincidences and manipulations that led them to the Everglades and the confrontation.
  • They expressed concerns about other children from Cornucopia House who might still pose a threat.
  • Pizzarelli assured them that the program was monitoring these individuals and would take action if necessary.
  • She requested all documents and materials related to the case, including Nika’s thesis.
  • Drummond secretly copied Nika’s thesis onto his laptop before handing over the original flash drive to Pizzarelli.
  • After turning in their badges and IDs, Drummond and McCarter left the meeting. Drummond dropped McCarter off at a train station.
  • Back home, Drummond met with his FBI contact, Roman Butler, at a Waffle House. Butler expressed frustration over the risks Drummond was taking, straining their relationship.
  • Drummond tried to smooth things over but the meeting ended tensely, highlighting the deteriorating bond.
  • McCarter attended church with his wife Dasha and daughter Cecilia. He appeared hungover and disheveled, showing signs of strain.
  • During the service, McCarter became agitated by Father Gallagher’s sermon referencing “gnashing of teeth.”
  • When offered communion, McCarter refused, causing a scene by knocking the wafers to the ground and storming out of the church.
  • Outside, Cecilia confronted him about his behavior, expressing frustration and concern. Dasha tried to mediate the situation.
  • Father Gallagher approached, offering support and suggesting McCarter come to confession. McCarter was visibly distressed.
  • Following the incident, McCarter sought therapy to address his mental state. He chose to be honest with the therapist about his experiences.
  • Despite his honesty, the therapist failed to provide effective help, and McCarter gained only minimal relief from the session.
  • Time passed, and in early January, Drummond was at home when his wife Ellie returned from shopping.
  • Ellie gave Drummond a gift: a silver snuffbox adorned with interlaced serpent designs, resembling a Möbius strip.
  • Upon handling the box, Drummond smelled chicken parmesan—a scent he associated with unnatural events.
  • Inside the box, he noticed remnants of dark dust, which unsettled him further.
  • Disturbed by the gift, Drummond later hid the snuffbox in his car to avoid the lingering smell.
  • McCarter was approached by Antonia Pizzarelli near his workplace. She informed him that leadership was pleased with his performance.
  • Pizzarelli told McCarter he would be reactivated for future missions and to watch for a message from “Verdant Weather,” which would contain activation instructions.
  • McCarter expressed his ongoing concerns and hinted at his struggles, but Pizzarelli emphasized his effectiveness and the need for him to continue his work.
  • Similarly, Drummond was contacted by Pizzarelli and informed that he would also be reactivated for future operations.
  • New agents were introduced to the narrative: Cole Parker, a U.S. Marshal, and Franklin (Frank) Booth, a veteran Delta Green operative.
  • Cole Parker was briefed by his previous handler, Rick Abrams, and then by Antonia Pizzarelli. He was informed that he would be joining Working Group Masticate.
  • Parker was instructed to monitor Drummond and McCarter for any signs of instability or unusual behavior during missions.
  • Franklin Booth, with a long history in Delta Green and prior acquaintance with Pizzarelli, was also assigned to Masticate.
  • Booth met with Pizzarelli, who tasked him with observing Drummond and McCarter in their civilian lives and during operations.
  • Both Parker and Booth were briefed on the unusual circumstances surrounding Drummond and McCarter, including their past encounters with supernatural events and the potential that they were influenced by unnatural forces.
  • They were instructed not to reveal their monitoring roles to Drummond and McCarter and to report any concerns directly to Pizzarelli.
  • The session concluded with Masticate’s numbers replenished and multiple agents assigned to monitor the original members, setting the stage for future missions and potential internal conflicts.
